On February the 4th 2010, the first day of spring according to the lunar calendar, the Chinese Year of the Tiger will commence. This is the voracious Golden Tiger as the heavenly stem is yang metal or the White Tiger Year, as the colour representing metal is white. The earthly branch of the Tiger contains mainly yang wood, a little yang earth and a small amount of yang fire. The Tiger is therefore considered a “growth star” for the fire element. The pillar with metal on top and wood, earth and fire below, is likened to Tiger wearing armour, a portent of fighting and war. This is described as metal chopping wood to create fire and fire represents the stock market and a boost to the property market. Altogether there is a combination of conflict, destruction and growth.
In China the Tiger is considered to be the king of animals; he is a powerful symbol of authority and leadership who is capable of being ferocious and cruel when challenged.
The antagonistic metal on top of the Tiger suggests destruction, accidents, earthquakes, volcanoes and volatile relationships. Everyone should be aware and conscious of these possibilities.
Metal chopping wood is the overall ‘picture’ of the year. When you combine the elements and the symbolism, the Tiger Year 2010 will be a volatile one, with positive highs and negative lows but, there will be plenty of movement compared to the stagnation year 2009.
